It's been a decent summer

I have not posted since June 2nd 2011. I need to get back in the habit.

Dolly did not tolerate the summer heat as well as she did in previous years. She has sensitive skin and during a trip to the vet we found that she is allergic to fleas. Children's Benadryl  helps a lot but it was not until about two weeks ago that we found out about that.

She spent quite a bit of time asleep in the house under the air conditioner. She'd go out with me in the morning but after about an hour or two she would try herding me back inside. She eventually gave up on that and now will bark to go in when she thinks she has spent enough time outdoors. Once the Benadryl was started she began to act a bit more like her old self.

One incident sticks out in my mind. We had gone on a truck ride into town. My usual habit after a rather long trip is to go inside and rest in the recliner. I could not do that this time. I had things to do.  Dolly was aggravated with me. I was supposed to go in like normal. So she barked at me in a fussy manner. I let her inside but she was not happy with me because I did not do as I was expected to.

Gretchen looked at me, laughed, and said " I think you have a second wife there Carl." I had a good laugh there. Gretchen further said "Normally I would not tolerate that for a minute, but since it is our Dolly I will."  Gretchen also said " I'm glad she is a dog because if she were a human female we would be fighting,"

Another funny thing that happened was that during the heat of the summer Dolly would not get in the truck with me until I had ran the AC for a little while. It was funny when I was not in a hurry but if I was late it got to be aggravating. So I got to where I did not call her until the AC had ran for awhile. On one occasion when I HAD to leave right then I left her behind. That one time ended her refusal to enter the truck. I don't like doing that because she is a most excellent traveling companion.

Last week we had another funny. I was outside and she came up to me clearly wanting something. I said to her "Do you want to go IN?" Instead she ran to the drivers door of the mini van and ran back to me. I say "Do you want to go for a RIDE?" She again runs to the minivan and runs back to me. I smile and say " How about a TRUCK RIDE instead?" She almost pee'd herself with joy then immediately ran to my pickup truck. I had been using the minivan instead of the truck for the past few days and she apparently thought that would be the vehicle we would use. I gave her her truck ride how could I not?

Yes I have spoiled Dolly but she has spoiled us more than we have spoiled her. She expects nothing more than love, truck rides, potty runs, and food all in that order.
